She meets a handsome stranger named Bowen, an expert of sorts on local ancient studies. Though their first meetings are turbulent at best, Catherine finds herself drawn to him.

Tragedy and loss ensue, sprouting within Catherine the deep seeds of rage that thrust her onto the damaging path of vengeance. Confused by the enigma that is Bowen, his mixed signals, and her own feelings, she is swept away with him on an unexpected journey surrounded by myth and long-forgotten knowledge. In order to stop the evil plans of Conall and his reunified army, Catherine must entwine her fate with peril. Her survival is trivial to her as long as Conall dies. She’ll do whatever it takes.

Blog Tour Giveaway:Withering Rose (Once Upon a Curse #2) by Kaitlyn Davis

Today is a special day for me! See what I found on my Google page.

It is my birthday! And I am really happy to start this day with one of my favourite authors (Midnight fire kept me awake for quite a while and I fell for  her bad-boy character).
So, my fellow book lovers, join me as I get distracted by Kaitlyn Davies and her Withering Rose!

Withering Rose (Once Upon a Curse #2)

Genre: YA Fantasy/Fairy Tale Retelling
Release Date: May 17th 2016

Summary:

 **A USA Today Recommended Series!**

What if Beauty was cursed, and the Beast was the only one who could save her? Don't miss WITHERING ROSE, a dystopian romance from bestselling author Kaitlyn Davis that reimagines the classic fairy tale of Beauty & The Beast. This is the second book in Once Upon A Curse, a series of interconnected stand-alone novels all set in the same fantasy universe.

"As the heat finally disappeared, I felt the bloom blossom in the very core of my soul, a rose just like my name—a ticking clock hidden behind a façade of beauty. From that moment on, my life would become a countdown, and all I could do was wait and watch as the petals of time slowly started to fall."

Omorose Bouchene has a secret—magic. There's only one problem. At the age of seven, an earthquake struck, catapulting her into a new world. A land made of skyscrapers and cell phones. Fast cars and fluorescent lights. A land where magic isn't supposed to exist and anyone who wields it is the enemy.

But after ten years of hiding, she's desperate to find a place where she can be free. Because all magic comes with a curse, and her curse is time—every ounce of power she uses strips days off of her life. The clock is winding down, and the only option left is to escape to the realm ruled by a man known only as the Beast. But the king of monsters isn’t what he seems. And the more Omorose opens her heart, the more she comes to realize that the only person she may need to fear is herself.

RAVE REVIEWS for Gathering Frost!

"My favorite thing about this book is the action. Jade isn't a sleeping princess. She's the best fighter and so fierce in her "empty" state. I felt like this was an urban fantasy with all the steam of a romance, and it was almost perfect for me." - Jessie Potts, USA TODAY Happy Ever After Blog

"Davis writes with confidence and poise, and the story's many twists and turns stave off predictability and allow readers to become immersed in a starkly magical world filled with last hopes." - Publisher's Weekly

"Gathering Frost is just awesome in every wayBeautiful prose, lots of heart-wrenching emotion, action and romance, a great, unstoppable villain, and a smart, tough heroine who will fight for what she wants." - Geeks in High School

"The writing is flawless as always and I must say, way to take a classic and make such a creative and wonderful twist to it...It's well thought out and it unbelievably magnificent. I seriously couldn't put it down. Wait I never actually put it down. I started and finished in one sitting because it's just that good. This one is a MUST READ." - Happy Tails and Tales Blog

Inspiration Boards – Freedom Fighter Base Setting

One of my favorite things to do when working on a new book is to create an inspiration board on Pinterest! First, because I'm obsessed with photography and art, so I love incorporating that passion into my writing process. And second, because it's a great initial way to outline the mood I want throughout the story, the characters I hope to portray, and the settings I'm trying to visualize.

So, of course, Withering Rose got its own inspiration board! The first few guest posts of my blog tour are diving into the different images that inspired my story, and right now we're taking a closer look at one of the two main settings—the freedom fighter base where Omorose lives.

Freedom Fighter Base

The world of Once Upon A Curse is sort of a crazy blend of a fantasy world and a post-apocalyptic one. Imagine two parallel universes, the world we live in today and a fairy tale world full of magic. Got it? Okay, now imagine them colliding, causing a crazy, intense earthquake that fuses the two worlds together, creating an entirely new patchwork landscape. That’s the world of this series!

In the first book, Gathering Frost, we got to take a closer look at how a huge city like New York fell to complete ruin. But in Withering Rose, the story is out in the open fields and the mountains. The freedom fighter base is still underground and out of sight, controlled by military officials. But the rules are a little more relaxed because the landscape is not nearly as dangerous. And in the beginning of the novel, this freedom fighter base is where Omorose lives.

About the Author
Melissa A. Craven (the "A" stands for Ann—in case you were wondering) was born near Atlanta, Georgia, but moved to Cleveland, Ohio at the age of seventeen. She still thinks of Cleveland as home, so it was only natural for Emerge to take place there.
Today, she is back in Atlanta—for some reason she can't seem to stay away from the ungodly heat that makes her long for things like "lake effect snow" and wind that will knock you flat.
Melissa decided a long time ago that the “life checklist” everyone else was clutching so tightly in their fists, just wasn’t for her. She does everything backwards because she is weird like that, but then, she is an artist and artists are notoriously "unique" and "quirky."
She is an avid student of art and design, and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of West Georgia in 2009. She worked as an interior designer for several years, but she's always thought she might like to be a writer when she grows up.
In her spare time, if she has any, she enjoys shopping for derelict furniture she refinishes to exercise the interior design part of her brain.

Excerpt from Chapter Two
Allie’s feet pounded against the hard packed dirt as she ran along the secluded trail, the sound of Saint Saeën’s Aquarium loud in her ears. It was still the middle of the night for most people, but she didn’t sleep much these days. She liked her new home on Kelleys Island, but the whole move to Cleveland, Ohio reeked of unanswered questions. Questions she knew not to ask.
Today was her first day at the prestigious Cliffton Academy, and she wasn’t looking forward to it. She’d changed schools often enough to know what to expect, and she hadn’t suffered from new school nerves in years. She just didn’t know if she had it in her to start over again.
Gavin would want me to try. She’d picked up the phone a dozen times over the weekend, but never finished dialing before she chickened out. She didn’t know what to say to him. In her mind, that door was closed. He was in the past, and as much as she missed him, she knew they both needed to move on. Calling him would only prolong their misery.
As the song changed to Pavane, Allie heard heavy footsteps echoing behind her. She had company. Another runner following at a discrete distance. He was curious and incredibly annoyed with her—if her instincts were right—which they almost always were.
She continued along the path, increasing her pace, but the footsteps grew louder as he left the trail to crash through the woods.
So much for my nice quiet morning.
She felt dizzy. Her head swam and her ears filled with a rush of white noise.
Should’ve had breakfast before I left.
Allie ran faster, hoping to push through the nausea. She looked over her shoulder expecting to catch a glimpse of him, but she crashed into something hard instead. She toppled to the ground in a tangle of tattooed limbs.
“Dammit! Watch where you’re going!” a gruff voice sounded in her ear.
“Sorry!”
“Your knee is crushing my spine, sweetheart.”
“Crap! Sorry!” She scrambled to her feet and reached to help him up.
His hand was warm and his grip, firm and confident. Allie waited for him to pull away with the flustered reaction she’d come to expect, but it never happened. She was completely thrown by his lack of response to her touch.
She met his steely gaze and her breath hitched in her throat. He towered over her—but almost everyone did. He was angry, but only one thought came to her mind.

Friend.

My review

Melissa Graven’s story “Emerge, the Awakening” is a story that will more than satisfy the fans of YA genre.
An original story that includes just about everything you look for in a book: action, an original and intricate plot, romance and young adult heartache, fantasy and character development.
The reader follows Allie as she evolves from the ignorant, lonely girl to a bas-ass heroine in a way that captures imagination page by page.
What I liked the most in this book: the perfect installments of flash-back snapshots, where the reader follows the heroes in a surprising mix of time-travel and fantasy.
What would make this book perfect for me: I’d love to find more action/bad-ass heroine scenes throughout the book.
My favorite hero: Aidan (of course!)
My favorite scene: The fire scene
My favorite quote: “If living in complete denial makes you happy, go for it.” Aidan
